Fort Vechten is located in an area of the Forestry Commission Staatbosbeheer. Staatsbosbeheer uses one room in the fort as an information center. At the suggestion of MMEK’, this space has become the starting point of a thematic nature walk around the fort.
In analogy with the reason for the fort’s origins, the Powerhouses theme shows how plants and animals can attack and how they defend themselves. Visitors get an introduction through a number of graphics and films in the fort.
Special information poles have been developed and placed along the walk. The poles contain 3 surfaces on which a military strategy is related to the fort and to the behaviour of a plant and an animal.
